By kick-off there is no room left to stand. Fans have travelled from across Attica, some still in work clothes, to watch the national team together. Flags hang from the ceiling and every chance on goal brings the room to its feet.

The owner says the screenings started as a favour to a few friends and grew by word of mouth. Greek regulars have adopted the team too, learning the chants and celebrating alongside.

More than a match

For younger fans born in Greece, the nights are a way to feel part of something bigger. For older supporters, they bring back memories of watching great Algerian sides with family back home.

Upcoming screenings are announced on the café’s social media. dzgr will keep a running list of venues showing Algerian national team matches across Greece.
